Design
Separate code and data modules
Rollout Monkey has a code module and a data module. The data module uses Microsoft Access 2010 data tables. This means that importing and exporting data is very straightforward, and that anyone with access skills can create their own reports based on these tables. This makes it very versatile to use.
Step 1 - Setup Process
Collect , Clean and Import your data
Collect your application and user data using standard tools. Put this information into the spreadsheet templates provided. It is important that the data is "Cleaned" i.e. office locations, departments etc. are named consistently - otherwise it will cost you time later. When this is complete, import the data into rollout monkey.
Customise your categories and status
In Rollout Monkey software can optionally be categorised and given a status. Similarly users can be given a status. This gives greater control and information over tracking progress. Standard categories are provided, however these can be given unlimited customisations.
Create software Aliases and dependencies
Two of the most challenging parts of managing software readiness are software being known by different names and application A being dependant on application B. In Rollout Monkey these can be created and these flow through to the software reports, rollout readiness etc.
Step 2 - Desktop Deployment
Preparing to deploy
Once Rollout Monkey has been set up as above rollout preparation can commence by creating rollout collections, assigning users to collections and assigning applications to users. As software becomes ready for deployment, this is entered into Rollout Monkey. Reports can be run to help focus on what applications should be prioritised.
Deployment
Use Rollout Monkey reports to confirm rollout readiness and print off user rollout sheets.
